	For the entrepeneurs amongst us business startups and self-employment is as normal as brushing their teeth
	...but for the rest of us startups are well outside our comfort zone

Here at Life’s 3rd Phase we can point you in the right direction and you can share the knowledge and experience of entrepreneurs who have been involved in startups before.

Business Models	The choice of model will depend on many things; the scale of your startup, your financial position, and - dare we say it - your age.
Business Planning	The plan is the blueprint for your project. Without it you're exposed to the unforeseen, and with it the bank is far more likely to see you as a credible entrepreneur.
Franchising	Franchising can give you access to a well-known brand name and a model for your startup, but take care to read all the small print.
Working from Home	Working from home can be the answer, and the internet and the concept of the microbusiness make this more feasible. But there are drawbacks.
Microbusinesses	Just a forum topic at present but likely to grow in importance for non entrepreneurial mature people, the microbusiness is one designed to top up a pension and keep you interested.
Trading on the Internet	and Internet Businesses come in all sizes from the very biggest -a new Microsoft? - to ‘microbusiness' designed to provide an on-going interest and top up your pension in the process.

Nothing excites than seeing he much anticipated for business getting launched. We all smile and walk high knowing that, we will soon be earning a lot of revenue as profits from our businesses. We even hold a party as a launching celebration to fete this great step towards success. But it is soon after we start paying the bills and high cost of relevant services we start feeling the pinch of high cost of running a business leading us to conclude that we were wrong about business.

For natural entrepreneurs, a business start-up is as normal as breathing..

... but for others self-employment is an alarming prospect.

But the British Government encourages business start-ups, particularly if you're over 50. Before you take the plunge and become self employed you might ask yourself:

Do I really need the hassle?: A business start-up is a full time in-your-face for 3-5 years. Do you really need it?
What are the risks?: If it doesn't work it will cost you money and reputation.
Have I got Time?: Delaying your retirement can result in your missing out on those first few years of retirement, with health and body still reasonably good. Do you really want to do this?

But if you're really committed there's a wealth of help and guidance out there and much of it is free.

When we, here at L3P, lack either the time to research or the expertise to write material of our own, we incorporate material from other sites.

Every morning as people wake up and make the commute to work, many dream of the day when they will finally work for themselves. Every time the boss lets someone know that they must give up their weekend plans for the good of the company, people contemplate the benefits of being the owner of their own business.

The British government through its site http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Over50s/Working/WorkingToSuitYou/DG_10027003 actively promotes us over-50s to start our own businesses and offers a whole bunch of soft inducements to encourage us to do so, and Saga, finds space on its website http://www.saga.co.uk/money/makingmoney/making-money-over-50-spare-room-... to focus on the very small business as a source of income for its target audience which tends to be rather older.

In the States AARP on its page http://www.aarp.org/money/work/articles/thinking_about_starting_a_busine... gives useful pointers to its visitors who might contemplate a business start up.

Franchising - the answer to a maiden's prayer?

A young entrepreneur starting up a new business can afford to invest twenty or thirty years in the project. The mature entrepreneur must achieve success in a much shorter time-span.

Franchising offers a shortcut to success, though at a price, and many of the names we know on the high street and beyond are in fact franchises where small individual businesses (and some much larger ones) trade under the identity and brand of the franchisor whose brand and business model they use.
