Upgrading your Account

You can checkout the pros and cons of the accounts available by visiting your Paypal Account and searching on 'Account Types'

The first stage is to choose whether you need a 'Premier' or a 'Business' account. The initial choice may rest on

• Your desire to trade in a name other than your own - eg a company name
• The need to cope with more than one customer at a time.

Both would suggest a 'business account'

Registering for Payments with Paypal

Registering for the first time

The first step is to register with Paypal which will require you to enter personal details and your credit card number.

When giving over private or financial data on the internet look for the small icon that indicates a 'secure site' Click on the padlock to check the security status of the site.

Click on the Link which will open the Paypal site in a separate window so you can flit back and forth between this site and Paypal.

Then select 'personal’ from the top (blue) tabs and then click in the gold 'create account' button.

Check out the Site Security

Paypal will be using your card details only as confirmation of identity. When you come to pay you can use this or any other card.

As always, check out the site security as shown in the box, and then complete the online form indicating where you live and bank and the type of contract you want and then click 'continue'.

Then complete the questionnaire and read and accept the agreement and privacy policy.

Making Payments with Paypal

You do not need to deposit money with to use the account.

Once your account is in place you can use it immediately to make payments to any trader accepting payments. This, of course, includes the vast majority of players on eBay

Starting your payment

If you've just won an auction on Ebay, or are buying from a trader accepting , click on the 'pay now' or 'check out' button.

Details of your purchases and the amount due will be displayed together with a 'Paypal' box with the icons of the various card types. select Paypal as your method of payment and click the 'continue' button.

Completing the payment form

Enter your login details and 'login'

On the payment form that comes up you can select any of your credit cords by clicking on the appropriate icon. This need not be the same card as you used to register with .

..and that's it done.
